Al Azizia case: Nawaz fails to appear before NAB committee

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif failed to appear before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Saturday in Al Azizia Steel Mills and Flagship Investment cases.
NAB had on Friday summoned Nawaz for appearance before a committee to record statements pertaining the respective cases, but the PML-N spearhead did not appear before the probing unit and is now expected to appear before an accountability court on February 13.
A three-man NAB committee headed by Deputy Director Mehboob Alam and also consisting of Additional Directors Nasir Janjua and Muhammad Rizwan was assigned the task to record the former prime minister’s statements.
NAB has notified the respective accountability court about Nawaz’s non-appearance and has also sent an official notice to the PML-N leader.
NAB summons Nawaz Sharif
On Friday, pertaining directions from NAB Director-General (DG) Irfan Mangi, supplementary references against Nawaz in Azizia Mills and Flagship Investment cases were filed, while the PML-N spearhead was also summoned for appearance on Saturday.
Moreover, NAB Chairman Javed Iqbal had expressed his displeasure at Punjab government’s lack of cooperation in cases concerning 56 public limited companies. For this purpose, an inquiry is being conducted and NAB had sent four letters to the Punjab government, but received no response, Javed said.
The provincial government had, however, dismissed statements of NAB chief, saying that representatives of the governing body are cooperating with the accountability bureau and that records of 47 companies have already been provided.
